Surrounded by their great armies
Million strong ranks, all of zombies
Doing anything that they're told
Buying anything that they're sold

Would your parents be proud of what you've become now?
Would your peers be proud of what you have become now?

Can't you see
Oh, baby
Beyond everything
That they want you
Oh, baby
To think is true

Now or later, we'll come to this
Our world sucked by this strange abyss
Nothing's real, and nothing's fake
What you thought was yours, they will take

Did you think that you'd become what you've become now?
Do you think that you'll regret what you've become now?

Can't you see
Oh, baby
Beyond everything
That they want you
Oh, baby
To think is true

Being whatever you're told to by the machine
Doing things to make yourself known by the machine

Could you change yourself from the way that you are now?
Or is it too late to change the way you are now?

Can't you see
Oh, baby
Beyond everything
That they want you
Oh, baby
To think is true

Do you think you choose to be the way you are now?
Or were you brainwashed to be the way you are now?

Can't you see
Oh, baby
Beyond everything
That they want you
Oh, baby
To think is true
Is true
Is true
Is true

One topic that interests me particularly is the concept of dystopia. A society that seems too perfect to be true, controlled by a central being of some sort. And it is too perfect to be true, as all the flaws in the cracks are hidden well from those brainwashed into the society. People hail such visions as a cautionary tale of the future, but much of the present can be seen in these dystopian works.

Case in point, we see adolescent society. A society of trends and money. At the head of this society, we see Viacom using their MTV networks division controlling the youth. TRL lets views choose from a pool of songs that Viacom and the suits at the record labels have permitted for mainstream consumption. Reality TV shows such as The Hills and Newport Beach portray an ideal for adolescents: a life of relationship drama and consumerist therapy. And within all that MTV perpetuates, we see alleged "punk" groups that seem rebellious, but in all actuality are controlled by the machines itself.
